[This video transmission is showing what looks like the afermath of a terrible struggle. The broken tree trunks, torn branches, and shattered rocks strewn about mark what's left of a simple forest grove. Near its center, the carcass of a mutant bear lies slumped by a boulder. Look closely and you'll see several of its torso bones have been snapped as if from repeated sledgehammer blows. A throwing axe a few times larger than the average tomahawk lies buried in its half-cleaved skull. The thing has been dead for about half an hour. Maybe more.]

...fool to let your guard down. You deserved this.

[Then the camera pans left to reveal a man's face. Long brown hair, strongly built, scar over one eye... bleeding from the cheek and forehead. We were obviously seeing the mini-wastleand from over his shoulder, though unintentionally.]

If the instructions on this... thing are correct, this is some means of contacting other people here. Wherever that happens to be; I am clearly not in Wallachia, though the darkness here is not entirely dissimilar.

Let us put it to the test then. The name is Trevor Belmont. Is anyone out there? What is going on here and who is responsible?

((OOC: One of the new mutant bears jumped Trevor minutes after his arrival, while he was figuring out how to use the communicator. The ensuing fight took place in the northwest woods, so feel free to have heard or even witnessed the brawl.))

Thought that creature is not one that has been seen before, there are many that are reputed be as—if not more—formidable. I believe there are only a handful capable of defeating one in face-to-face combat and remain relatively unscathed. [ a pause. ] Of course, there are also others who may possess greater skill, but they are...shall we say, less inclined to see to more than their own life.

How selfish and impractical. If they care not about protecting the weak, they could at least see it as safeguarding potential assets. Everyone has something to give, in my experience.

Some are often too blinded by their own desires to see the need. Unfortunately, there have been a few incidents in which the lack of aid from those who could have given it caused the death of someone who need not have perished—albeit indirectly.

...I have barely been here. But I begin to feel a sense of responsibility for those who remain.

Indeed? That is very noble of you.

[picks himself up from the rock he's been seated this whole time]

I aim to be en route to the city shortly. Might there be a healer of sorts about?

There should be a few at the Sanctuary. You've been told about it already, I presume?

Riqis mentioned it. I know where I am headed next.

By your leave, sir...?
